This is my final blog post. Throughout this journey, I’ve done my best to speak on light pollution and raise awareness of the various ways health is affected. But that’s not enough to create change on its own. I want to encourage those reading this blog post to speak with 1 other person about light pollution. Conversations are the best way to shift attitudes about all types of pollution. Casual conversations allow you to reach someone where they’re at, and I encourage you all to read the book Saving Us by Katharine Hayhoe, where she explains that one of the most powerful ways to address environmental issues is simply by talking about them with others. Even just pointing out how bright streetlights affect sleep or wildlife can get someone thinking differently. If more people become aware and begin to care, that’s how larger change begins.
We as humans have depended on light as part of our cycle of evolution. I’m scared to wonder what the implications of a larger disruption could mean for humanity. However, I am certain to give up and will keep searching for solutions!
