Humans aren’t the only ones affected by Light Pollution. Wildlife is also a victim of light pollution. There are a vast number of birds and insects whose behaviors have shifted due to the bright lights of the planet. In a study looking at the Great Tit Bird (Parus Major), it was observed that urbanization has brought Artificial Light At Night (ALAN), which created adverse effects on the birds’ activity patterns, metabolism, stress response, and immune function. This article looked at more animals in Oslo, Norway, to see the potential effects of light pollution.

The study’s findings are important to note because it’s not just Norway that has these results. Light pollution is a global issue, affecting ecosystems in cities and rural areas all over the world. Artificial light at night (ALAN) can disrupt natural ecosystems, altering animals’ orientation, movement, and essential behaviors like feeding and reproduction. It’s important to remember that humans aren’t the only ones suffering because of light pollution. Decentering ourselves can help us see the drastic effects.
